Happy Thursday Cougs!!!

If you haven't heard by now, a couple of days ago Paul Wulff and Co. officially extended a scholarship offer to Trey Griffey, a Florida wide-receiver prospect.  For those of you who have been living under a rock and recognize his last name, but can't make the association, please refer to the picture above.  If you still can't figure it out then I'll put it in plain English for you.  He's the son of none other than KEN GRIFFEY JR.!!!

It has been no secret that we have been recruiting him.  His dad even said in an interview about a month ago that he was interested in WSU, and will be visiting Pullman this summer along with Oregon.  He has become another piece of this ever growing Florida pipeline the coaches have built.

While his offer list will not jump out at you (Florida International, Florida Atlantic, WSU), he has a chance to have a great senior year.  As a junior last year at West Orange high school, he had a meager 22 catches for 362 yards and 3 TDs.  However, he recently transferred to Florida powerhouse Dr. Phillips High School, the same high school as true freshman linebacker Darryl Monroe, and will have a chance to showcase his talents against some of the best high-school teams in the country.

He stands at 6-2, and 185lbs and reportedly runs a 4.5 forty.  While none of that may jump out at you, his bloodlines CANNOT be ignored.  Yes, we're not talking baseball here, but anybody that watched Junior in his prime can't deny that he was the best athlete on the baseball diamond 99.9% of the time.  If he can fill out like his dad did, Trey could be a very well put-together athlete.

This is an intriguing offer, for many reasons.  First of all, wide receiver may just be our deepest position on this football team, and offers to that position will be tight this recruiting cycle.  So I'm guessing the coaches think pretty highly of him to officially extend an offer.  You would have to think that the feeling is mutual as well.  With Ken serving a consulting position now with the Mariners, he will be close enough to watch Trey on Saturdays, and that could be a huge selling point for the coaches.  It will be interesting to see how it plays out.  As one WSU fan put it, it would be great to see Junior at Dad's weekend!!!

Go Cougs!!!

Hello everybody. Its your good friend, Cletis. In case you missed last week, I am a graduate of Indiana University. Until last week, I was also Sutra's special assistant.

However, because last week was judged to be among the worst posts in the 8 year history of the blog, I have since been nearly shut out of the internal workings of the compound.

Thankfully, I have been given one last shot. But since my "Wednesday Top Five" came up short last week, I have decided to shrink my thoughts a bit.

So, read on after the jump to see what us Hoosiers think about your Cougars.

Happy Tuesday Cougs, and welcome to another spring fish wrap.  This time we take a gander at San Diego State, opponent number three on WSU's 2011 slate.  And hey, I don't know about you, but after looking at the first two '11 WSU opponents in Idaho State and UNLV?  If all goes well, the Cougs very well could be heading into San Diego at 2-0 and looking for the best start since, well....since a long time ago, OK!?!?  (we started 3-0 in 2005).

But it won't be easy.  The Aztecs surprised a lot of onlookers with a breakthrough 2010 performance, winning nine games including a huge 35-14 win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.  It was SD State's first non-losing season since 2003, when they went 6-6, and the most wins by the school since 1977!  Brady Hoke had turned this sucker around in a hurry, and after just two seasons took the Aztecs from a 2-win outfit when he arrived in '08 to the nine-win squad that bagged the bowl win at the end of '10.  So everything is great in the land of sunshine and beaches, right.....?

Unfortunately for San Diego State, Brady Hoke is a Michigan man. At least he kinda/sorta is a Michigan man?  He didn't attend Michigan as a student, but he did coach the defensive line from '97 - '02.  And well, when Michigan calls their men, whether they are former players or valued assistants, usually they pick up the phone.  But they don't always get their man!  See, Jim Harbaugh is a Michigan man too, but he had the audacity to spurn Big Blue's advances.  So naturally Michigan moved on to their next hot candidate, and that was of course Brady Hoke.

Let's face it, being the school on the other end of "poaching" pretty much sucks, doesn't it?  We as Cougs have experienced our share of it, from Dennis Erickson to Kelvin Sampson to Mike Price, to eventually Tony Bennett (eesh).  So we can at least sympathize with what Aztec fans have been going through since the end of the 2010 season.  But that's all in the rearview.  Where does SD State go from here?  Should they simply fold up the tents because Hoke took his "dream" gig?  Or shall they play on, and will they surprise everyone once again in 2011?  Let's see....

Between this awful weather we are having throughout the Northwest and the lack of WSU sports action, this is easily my least favorite time of the year. With the Mariners sucking again and the OKC Thunder reaching the Western Conference Finals, it is tempting to just collect a few cartons of Cougar Cheese and curl up in my WSU blanket until Fall camp rolls around.

Nonetheless, being an optimistic beacon of positivity, I'd like to provide our loyal readers with five ways to avoid the summer sports blues because I couldn't think of six. Click on the jump to read more!
