Happy Hump Day, Cougs!

What a difference a week makes, huh? After laying a big, fat egg at the CLink and prompting me to write one of the most depressing articles in the history of articles, our Cougs bounced back and showed some tremendous fight against a Top 10 team in one of the most difficult places to play. Unfortunately, we were no longer facing Oregon State so even a considerable effort wasn't enough to get the W. Those Ducks managed to make just enough plays to fight off the Cougs, but certainly we all feel better and it appears that optimism is back on the Palouse. We're not dead yet, baby!! (Now that I think about it, the media talking about coaches on the hot seat is the "Bring out your dead" guy and Paul Wulff is the "I'm not dead yet" guy. Neato.)

Before we all move on to shifting the focus 100% to the Cal game, I 'd like to dwell on the week that was just a little bit longer. Of course, because I can't focus on one thing at a time, I'll be all over the place. Come along for the ride...

First of all, just a humble disclaimer here. I was mega tempted to title this post "Thoughts From a Season on the Brink," but out of respect for Alex Brink and the constant of use of this play on words from 2005-2007, I opted for what is before you.

So I was exchanging texts with Huddy on Sunday after his Bengals put it on the Seahawks late in the 4th Quarter. Naturally the conversation shifted from Seattle's young, up & coming defense, and Cinci's  town version of our Red Rocket to Wazzu's performance the day before down by the Willamette. After talking about another tough loss, I posed the following question to him, and I want your thoughts on it.

Was Saturdays 43-28 loss our best game of the season, given expectations going into the game?

Even though it was a loss, I would have to say yes.

Read On for why I feel this way and get my thoughts on our game this weekend with Cal.

Happy Halloween Coug Fans! Today is supposed to be the scariest day of the year, full of chills, frights, horrors and dread. Of course, we are Coug fans so thats just an average Saturday for us. We're also never ones to pass up an opportunity to party, so there will probably be plenty of this going on at the Campus Commons tonight...

This costume is available in the walk-in cooler at Dissmores and it comes with free beer!

Since we are celebrating Halloween I thought it would be a good time to discuss the scariest thing in all of College Football...

The funny thing is, all the haters, or "the Dark Side" as P-town likes to call them, are going to cry their brains out today about how we "blew it" in Autzen. Of course we wildly exceeded their very own expectations of how we'd perform... WILDLY. But as usual, that won't matter to them. They will just conveinantly move the goal posts to some crazy-ass place where we should have won today so they can continue their bitch-fest. Have at it haters!

I think our team deserves a pat on the back today for fighting their butts off against the #7 team in one of the toughest venues to win at in the country. We were undone by a couple catastrophic special teams breakdowns and the predictable limitations of a career backup QB. But there is a huge difference between the team we took to Autzen today and the team we went in there with 2 years ago and I hope we are sane enough to recognize the monumental amount of work it has taken to get to this point in just 2 seasons.

Thank god it is finally the weekend Coug fans. As an aspiring young journalist, I can certainly say this was the most feedback I've ever received for a column criticizing Paul Wulff.  I nearly passed out when I heard Kevin Calabro call my name on 710 ESPN Seattle Wednesday afternoon. To be frank, I've always liked the man but truly doubted his coaching abilities.  The column I wrote in this week's Evergreen was certainly reactionary, but the fact remains that there are coaches out of work right now who could lead the program back to a level of respectibility.
