Special Comment on the Wilson Report

Written by Coug-A-Sutra on .

Hello Followers.  Hope you’ve had a great week.

Today’s post is one of the more difficult ones I’ve had to write during my time on the blog.  But, in light of the information included in the report submitted by Bill Moos to President Floyd two days ago, I feel compelled to offer a few thoughts which I’m sure will be controversial.

Wazzu Morning Drip - The MQW Edition

Good morning Cougs, and a happy Thursday to you and yours.

So the WSU investigation wrapped up on Marquess Wilson, and the news flew around pretty much everywhere last night on the school's internal findings.  You can read through the entire review here if you wish, and it's got some pretty interesting findings as to what has been going on since Mike Leach arrived in Pullman.  Some of it harsh, some of it tough love and I guess people are going to have different reactions to the whole thing based on what they believe.

But one word of caution here -  is this really the end of the story?  Or are things just getting started?  I mean yeah, the WSU internal investigation is done, but there is another shoe to drop here and that's the Pac-12 investigation, stress on the word Pac-12.  I'm not insinuating that the report will be all that different, and I do think Bill Moos and the rest have done what looks like a thorough job here.  But as much as we are all ready to move on from all this, I don't think this thing is quite over, at least not yet anyway.

But there's already a lot of reaction out there, so let's take a quick glance around at what people are saying.....

It's Baaaaaaack

Written by Tim Huddleston on .

Good morning and Happy Hump Day, Cougs! We're still a long way away from National Signing Day and finding out exactly who the next great Cougars will be from the 2013 recruiting class. That said, I've already fully made the switch to, "As it pertains to Cougar Football, basically all I think about is recruiting" mode. For This Here Blog, that can only mean one thing: it's time for the triumphant return of the Bridgeport Pumped-O-Meter! In case you forgot how this thing works, basically I arbitrarily assign a number rating to our verbal commitments based on the dumbest criteria possible. Check out last year's edition if you need further reminder. Everyone ready?. Neato, gang. Let's pump it up.

Wazzu Morning Drip - 12/12/12 Roundup

Happy Humpday Morning Cougs, as we hit the midway point of the week and a crazy 12/12/12 on the calendar.  Why is 12/12/12 significant?  Well, because it only happens once every 100 years, but like Y2K it really is meaningless (unless your wireless router keeps resetting, which mine was doing this morning??  Yeah, it's not because it's a piece of crap router, it MUST BE 12/12/12!).

So the Wazzu Morning Drip, you know this morning thing we've been doing lately?  We'll keep it rolling, but just be forewarned - it's kinda/sorta hard to find good Coug morning links all the time, especially in the offseason.  I know you probably don't want me to regurgitate recruiting articles-n-such, so I will try and be creative in what we look at each and every morning of the week.  Sound good?  Good.

By the way, way off topic here but my heels/Achilles tendons have been sore for the last three+ weeks, ever since that half-marathon.  I have been trying to power through it and it isn't unbearable pain, but it also doesn't seem to be going away either. Any "real" runners out there with advice?  Right now we are lifting and running 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and around 4-5 miles each workout.  I've been googling it and finding everything under the sun, from ice to heat to rest to taking like a month off, so anyone who's run into this, please feel free to share.

Moving on to today's links.....

The Cure for the Post Season Spectator Blues: Coaching Carousel Drama!

Written by Longball on .

"I'm just sittin here, watchin the wheels go round and round..."

I can’t help it, I find myself at least as interested in all the coaching moves taking place this season as I am in the Bowl games. Of course last year we were right in the thick of it, while this year, with the exception of Jeff Choate’s departure, we are pretty much left to enjoy the action from the sidelines.

So far, for me, this years coaching carousel/musical chairs/jamboree has had a little bit of everything. Read on to bask in the crazy with me...

Happy Tuesday Coug Nation, and as always we hope things are good in your world.

So after the last few days, seems that things are picking up a bit on the WSU recruiting front??  It's hard to keep track of all the news, but let's take a quick look, shall we?

Sorry, Long Lost Cousin Allen

Written by Tim Huddleston on .

"The Other Huddy"

Good afternoon and Happy Monday Cougs!  A basketball game happened yesterday and the Cougs won it 59-50. Hooray! Everything that was awesome about Wednesday's game against Gonzaga (National TV, packed house, raucous crowd, exciting, well-played game against a top 10 opponent), yesterday's game against Fresno State wasn't. It was a sleepy, sloppy tilt about which the only good thing you can say really is that the Cougs won in spite of not playing well. In any sport, that's a trait you ultimately need to have, and it was good to see. Due to a soccer game (shout out to Fighting Llamas FC!) I had to watch the game on my DVR and for that I'm thankful. Here are some other real quick hit thoughts about the big win:

My family hasn't had a reunion in quite some time and I'm not exactly up to spped on all the goings-on, but I naturally assumed that the Bulldogs'  leading scorer Allen Huddleston is my long lost cousing. The resemblance is pretty obvious. Being that he's family, I wanted to see him fare well while the Cougs coasted to an easy victory. Neither of these things happened. Cousin Allen struggled and the Cougs couldn't put him and his mates away untl the last few minutes. I hope your season gets better from here, Cuz. I'll see you at the next Huddleston family reunion.

Hey, Coach Bone did a thing again! For the second game in a row, we threw a defensive wrinkle at the opponent, this time using our bigs to trap coming out of screens. It seemed to give FSU fits for a while, so I suppose it was effective. That said, other things that gave FSU fits were shooting, passing, dribbling and basically anthing else important to successful basketball. You have to give some credit to our defense, though. If it was a Tony Bennett team, we certainly would have. 59-50 was our thing in the glory days!

Thank goodness for Brock Motum. Check out this play-by-play. Royce Woolridge made a lay-up at the 14:19 mark of the first half. From that time until Mike Ladd made a pair of free throws 7 seconds into the second half, the Brockaroo was the only Cougar who scored. Suffice it to say, secondary scoring is a bit of a problem for this team. Fortunately...

Season high for Mike Ladd! Ladd carried the scoring load in the second half (inasumch as one can carry a scoring load when the whole team scores 59). Way to stick it to your former team, Mike. I don't really know the circumstances of your transfer, but I'm going to pretend that it was acrimonious and this was a huge redemption for you. #Narrative

There's really not much more to be said about this one. Winning ugly is still winning. Go Cougs.

WAZZU MORNING DRIP - MONDAY MORNING EDITION

Happy Monday Cougs to you and yours, as we all climb back in the chair and start another weekly grind.

So how 'bout those Seahawks, hmmm?  58-0 in just an amazing performance at home, and just a dreadful performance by the visiting Cardinals.  It had many tweeting late in the game yesterday that it felt an awful lot like USC-WSU circa 2008, when Pete Carroll's Trojans yucked it up 69-0 in Pullman.

http://www.google.com/url?source=imglanding&ct=img&q=http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_wsYM5eATgTg/Sd9QNjjsloI/AAAAAAAABac/MTv52yDW-kk/s1600/690_header.jpg&sa=X&ei=vuPFUMyDG4rkrQHj6oDADQ&ved=0CAwQ8wc&usg=AFQjCNGk3swJeHrS24VjGJgnqNqJR8w9bQ

Yeesh.

Anywho, it was pretty unbelievable to see an NFL team beat another NFL team at that kind of level.  It just doesn't happen much in a league where it seems like everyone is 8-8 and games always seem to come down to a handful of plays here and there.  And there was already a report after the game last night that AZ might be ready to can Whisenhunt and promote Ray Horton to head coach, like, ASAP!

But as we know, things can change in hurry in this sport.  As good as the Hawks looked yesterday, it's certainly possible they could go out to Toronto against Buffalo and lay an egg. Richard Sherman might be done for a few games after the PED appeal this coming week, and it's a long trip from Seattle to Toronto, so we'll see what happens.  But maybe that Chicago OT win the week before this one was a true turning point for a young, talented team still trying to figure it out?  I guess we'll see!

But enough of all that.  On to the daily links!

Kelly Olynyk?!

Written by Huddy on .

Anyone else want to MmmBop Kelly Olynyk in the face this morning?

Good morning and Happy Thursday, Cougs! Some game last night, huh? In case you missed it (or also missed Sean's morning post), the Cougar men's hoopers fell to 10th ranked (!) Gonzaga lastnight 71-69 in front of a rowdy crowd at Beasley Coliseum. I see you, Zzu Cru. You know it was a strange game when it led to me kicking off a recap post by searching for pictures of Isaac Hanson. You see, somewhere along the line, Kelly Olynyk of the Zags decided he should look exactly like the eldest brother from Hanson circa 1998. Additionally, at some point last night, he became a real thorn in the Cougs' sides to the tune of 22 second half points. As such, I am now openly loathsome of one Kelly Olynyk. For more of my thoughts on one helluva ball game in Pullman last night, please continue reading. Pretty please.
