Good morning, Cougs and welcome to Signing Day 2013! As it's Hump Day, I had to at least chime in to say hello, but by some unfortunate series of events, I ended up being scheduled with an all day meeting on one of my favorite days of the year (at least the college football year). For the last couple weeks, I'd resigned myself to the fact that today would be void of surprises. Our Cougs had piled up the verbal commitments at a pretty high rate and looked to have just about a full class. Then the drama kicked in. First, there was the Myron Turner saga (for whatever reason, our staff pulled his scholarship offer just after his official visit and his high school coach got real mad). Next, there was the Chidobi Awuzie ordeal (reportedly, he committed, then waffled and the staff decided to quit waiting on him. Another offer pulled). There were plenty of near misses and it was looking like Signing Day would go out with a whimper. Out of nowhere, the Cougs picked up a huge commitment (literally) from Riley Sorenson and then our BFF's at Cougfan reported that Wazzu may now be the favorite to land the services of former Utah verbal Marcellus Pippins. Just like that, my usual Signing Day excitement was back in full swing.
The WSU Athletics official site has their usual signing day central where you can keep up with the LOI's as they roll in. My main man Longball should be along later to insert analysis as only he can (hopefully read, "afternoon drunk"). I'll be getting my leadership workshop on, then flying home from Portland, but I hope to join in the fun when I can. Here's to the class of 2013, a fairly random collection of teenagers that we're all counting on to make us happy. Go Cougs.
Longball's live updates after the jump...
WSU Football Blog LOI Day Headquarters
Longball here, I plan to do my best to post relevent updates here throughout the day as our LOI's roll in. I may take the occasional timeout to mess with the cats or watch some Perry Mason re-runs, but Im sure you understand. I also am nursing one helluva a wrenched back this morning, so if you catch me being unfairly critical of the fickleness of 18 year olds, its the back talking, not me. Got it? now I sound like Vince Grippi!

Too many names on LOI day to keep track of for me. The part I enjoy is looking back 4-5 years from now and seeing how the class played out, who had an impact, who didn't qualify, etc. It is so tough to tell which kids will be impact guys and which ones will wash through the program. I am excited that Bruggman stuck with his commitment though. Any time you can get a 4-star (except if you are Bama), you have to be happy.
I hate the high I get off signing days and then the crash and burn during the season. Hopefully this class changes everything!
cheesh! bruggman sure isn't making it easy! but it sure has been interesting (unfortunately so). i think he's in the process of signing his LOI based on some tweets i've seen.
Meanwhile, down comes the scoreboard!
More new coming out on twitter about Bruggman... he was on his way to Austin for an All Star game, was barfed on by someone on the plane, got sick and is on his way back home. According to this rumor he still plans to sign with WAZZU. so thats better news, except the barf part.

Rumor circulating around this event that Tyler Bruggman may flip to#ArizonaState. @BrandonHuffman @JaredPros2Preps
Really hoping Bruggman pulls through and comes to Pullman. Could be a long day waiting that one out though, with ASU losing their top QB it could add some pressure on the kid to stay home! So far so good though, glad to see Sterling's LOI come through (wasn't he one of our last known "soft" verbals?).
@SeanHawkins He was the only soft verbal we had. With no LOI received yet, I gotta think there is some serious last minute tussling over Bruggman.
Sterling is in!, Great job coach leach and staff hanging onto a kid who was clearly wavering over the distance he would be away from his family. Welcome big fella!
Other things to watch today: do we hang onto D-tackle Gerald Sterling who may want to stay closer to home down south, or do we steal cornerback Marcellus Pippins from Utah at the last minute?
Still waiting for Tyler Bruggman's LOI. With ASU losing their top QB commit today, does that mean we have something to wring our hands over?
If you want to make wildly optimistic or unrealistic predictions for any of these kids in our comments, today is the day. Lets hear it!
I'll start off... Isaac Dotson beats out Tyler Bruggman at QB in 3 years. No doubt about it.
The sheer size of the O line class we are bringing on is kind of exciting. As much as I enjoy spending 3 years hanging weight on some guys with "great frames", sometimes its nice to just have some guys who can stretch out a XXXXL jersey on day one.
