Basketball Update

If a Bone falls in the Galen Center and nobody is there to see it, did it actually happen? Apparently it did. I'm somewhat ashamed to say I've seen literally 0 minutes of any of the last three Cougar basketball games. Some of this involves a new special lady with DirectTV, but honestly I don't know that it would make much difference. Game days come around and I typically am not even sure who we play. Does Coach Ken Bone survive this? Is it Ernie Kent time? I don't know, but the program needs a shot in the arm. Badly.
Go Cougs.
Last week, I didn't even know who we were playing on Thursday, until I saw UW was playing UCLA #KenBoneEffect
With 15 or so games a season at home and in addition to the PAC-12 tournament (and possibly a NCAA or NIT invite) I assume that a basketball program can bring home decent revenues. That said, will it be cost effective for Moos to replace Bone now and get a Tony Bennett type of personality who can revive the program and make up for the loss in Bone's contract payout? There have to be a lot of capable assistants who are part of successful programs looking for a chance to prove themselves. Seems everytime we go down the route of someone with Coug or NW ties it bites us.
A sorry state with no apparent solution. WTH, Tony Bennett recruited here, who's to say someone else can't. I for one would wonder at the wisdom of hiring a mid major coach to Pullman for his first big time job. It's different here as we've all said multiple times. Bone is a nice guy, and had success elsewhere. Maybe that's where he should go again.
It's simply impossible to show that this team is on a positive trajectory over the last 4 years...and does anyone have confidence the program will move in a positive direction over the remaining 3 of Bone's contract?
Do the right thing, Moos.... fire Bone.
Another uninspired performance. Even being up 5 at half, I had next to no confidence we would win the game. When the score is close in the second half, we really seem to tighten up and things go south. I don’t see too many (if any) wins left on the schedule. There is no buzz at all within the program right now, nobody is going to the games, and the results seem to primarily be the same (loss, loss, loss). As far as a replacement for Bone, it’s hard to say who can be predicted to have success in Pullman. I know there are some hot names at a mid-majors (Marshall from Wichita State seems like he could be a good fit), but how are we supposed to tell if they can succeed in Pullman? It is one thing to have success at a mid-major, it is completely different when you have to recruit kids to Pullman against every other school in the Pac12 who you are at a disadvantage with, except for maybe Utah. It sucks being frustrated with no obvious answer in mind. I guess things can only get better, right?
I would really like to see what Ben Johnson could do with this team. I know Moos doesn't like to fire people mid season, but I would like to see Ben get a shot. I think he may have been a better choice to begin with. Let him take over interim and maybe even next year to see what he can do. Probably not the splash hire the program needs, but would somewhat solve the problem of buying out Bone and paying to hire a big name coach. He has also brught in some of the better players on the roster. Seems to be working out all right for USC, they have won 3 conference games under their interim coach. For those counting, that is one more win than Bone has.
Of course I would be fine with Ernie Kent too, his teams were always fun to watch, except of course when they would beat the Cougs.
I WAS REALLY FIRED UP AND READY TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET THIS PROGRAM WINNING, but coach Bone gave me one hell of a half time chat and now... you know... whatever
@dollarbob If he doesn't fire Bone, Moos could get creative and sell tickets that are only valid for the first 30 minutes of game time. The fans think we're a juggernaut.
I just realized I made it sound like Ken Bone may not survive my personal apathy toward the program. I'm sure Bill Moos sit's in his office thinking, "I hope that Huddy guy is still invested in Cougar athletics". I made an assumption that I am not alone in my thoughts.
