Happy Gameday Cougs, and a big thanks again to the Cougs on the ground for this week's ESPN broadcast. Good positioning yet again, and a great job all the way around.....
Great positioning front and center for the show, you just can't miss those flags. Thanks as always to Will Walker for his screencaps, and you can see all of them here at his Google+ page. And if you were wondering? It's now 123 Gameday shows where Ol' Crimson and friends have made an appearance! Unreal.
Moving on to something strange, anyone see this animated gif of UW defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox from the Stanford game?
Just uh.....yeah. Weird. Granted he had reason to be in ecstasy given that his UW D held a pretty awful looking Stanford offense to 13 points. But still....anyway, thanks to our own Soze for linking that up from the Big Lead.
As far as links go, Christian Caple has a decent look at the game today, plus this round-up of links from Cougcenter should get you going in the right direction for pre-game stuff.
Caple's article is interesting in that when you really look at what Oregon does, you can understand the boatload of concerns for the Cougs, especially on D. Mike Leach is quoted as saying that Oregon's offense preys on teams that don't get lined up correctly on defense (did YA SEE the mistakes late vs. Colorado!?!?!?). Gulp. Better be sound AND smart from the get-go tonight!
But hey, it's a new day. Just another chance to turn it all around....?
Whatever. Just enjoy the game tonight, and as always, GO COUGS!
The first two quarters I've seen in a while; so many smiling Cougs! Unfortunately, our second half doldrums continue. At least we got that last TD and beat the spread. I got in the elevator with a Duck who put $900 on the game...that made my night. Hooray for schadenfreude! I may have been down about the loss, but at least I wasn't out $900!
Not a win, but would be willing to put this into the "moral victory" category. I liked a lot of what I saw out of our players, especially concerning the mental aspects of the game. I was in the 300 level, but from the body language it didn't look like players had a case of the basset hounds. Also, fantastic tackling by everyone on the D. Really impressed about the strides those guys have mad. Also, offense... not bad. I'm sure Arizona would have loved to put up 19 points against Oregon's first string D.
The bad....too many drops. Drops everywhere. MQW had a few...Isaiah Meyers had a million (no, probably like 6 or 7... felt like a million though), others were guilty. And also, the Turd Quarter continues to haunt us. We still have work to do, but this was a drastic improvement over last game, and possibly a slight improvement over last year.
my Dad was born in Walla Walla and my uncle still lives there so I could almost be a WallaCoug as well.....anyway I did it again - I said I was signing off??? ;) goodnight....and representing as always here in Nevada.....there are actually a few alums here including yours truly.....signing off this time for reals :)
"Billyblaze: The New WallaCoug"
What's with you stealing my fillibustering act on threads during games, eh? I copyrighted that move!
That said I mostly agree with everything you, so... carry on.
Believe it or not, I think we may have found some character and swagger tonight....most importantly we gained some confidence....knowing we could hang at least with a top5 team for a half....51-26 it is and we covered!!! I didn't bet even though I am near tons of sports books here in Reno because if I do, I always jinx us so at least thank me for that ;) Goodnight Coug Nation.......wish we won however my expectations were low.....I guess there is alway next week and I think we might have a chance against OSU......I look forward to reading all the posts this coming week on the blog and your more in depth analysis......Billyblaze out
Sorry typos this darn android phone - perhaps it is the 4+ glasses of crimson wine - hmmmmm???? ;) so looks like we won't cover the 29pt spread allowing 4tds in 2nd half without scoring a single pt now 51-19....but we did well in 1st half only down 23-19 at half? Do we have any moral victories tonight? Will CML once again throw team under bus saying things about constipation and whatnot (that constipation comment still haunts me weekly even here in Reno, NV believe it or not).....question as martin stadium gets completed for all the renovations, will we still do this stupid home game in Seattle? This game tonight needed to be in Pullman.....300miles away in Seattle is no home field advantage to anyone in Pac12.....can we stop this game in Seattle now? We have pac12 money now, do we still need to do this? Why are we only team that has to lose a home game anyway? Real aums and fans will make trip to Pullman......woooohoooo Tuel I told ya ;) Cougs score Tuel to Wilson they might cover after all ;)
Connor still not getting rid of ball....and Oline is doing a decent job protecting in my opinion.....here is where Tuel at least could give us his running ability......so after 23-19 game at half, I can't believe I am now worried we will not cover 29pt sreaad that Vegas put on this game.....have we covered the spread in any game this year?? - I don't think we have.....man just another piss poor 2nd half collapse.....will we even score? Should we just kick a FG to say we were not shut out in 2nd half? 44-19 with 11mins and crap, there goes another 80yd run by oregon for td....embarrassing......how do we not have anyone back to attempt a tackle? 51-19 now and still 11mins.....will we give up 70pts?? It sure seems easy for Oregon.....our defense seems to have disappeared and Connor is frustrated....why not give Tuel a shot here for shit and giggles since it is mostly shit going on in this 2nd half :(
Maybe Tuel needs a chance here in 4th Qtr? Halliday is not getting rid of ball quick enough damn just throw it in stands or out of end zone if nothing as opposed to taking sack. We are once again showing we are a terrible 2nd half team and can we please not gve Oregon the ball on our side of the field???? Same stupid little things happening in this game that just are not allowing us to even be better than a 3-4 win team....crap!!!
Can we shock the nation???!! If we can just settle down and tackle and maybe get our passing game going, who knows?? I am concerned with Halliday limping at half though...will Tuel end up finishing this??? And damn did Wilson yet again miss holding onto some receptions......will he please start playing like he did last year???
Maybe we should see if Greg Williams wants to coach college defense for a year. BTW I have received four Go Cougs in the ATL airport so far. Next stop Nawleans and Bourbon street. Here's to hopin I am drinking to celebrate instead of drown my sorrows
Here's to good friends and perhaps some good football. I'll be there with Mrs. Ambush, PCHogs and family, and 15 other screaming Cougs. Join us in the Bull Pen @ Safeco for tailgating, and hoist one to the biggest upset in College football since Appalachin State beat Michigan in the Big House.
