Happy Monday Cougs, and a welcome back to reality. It's a huge dose of the Mondays for yours truly, as I was off the grid last week for vacation as the family and I hit the Deception Pass area with the RV. A really great time for some R-N-R, and the weather pretty much cooperated as well! By the way if you are up on some decent fly fishing opportunities on the west side of the state, please feel free to share. My 11-year old has "the bug" after being introduced to the sport this summer, and we're looking for streams and the like for some good experiences! We did try the middle fork of the Snoqualmie River outside of North Bend yesterday, and it was OK, but any insider tips are greatly appreciated.
Nice pic from Martin Stadium's Facebook page today, as some of the new signage is starting to appear. You can see another photo here, where they are installing the logo on the new structure:
It really gives you a feel for what it's going to truly look like this fall. Can't wait! Thanks to the Cougar Football Project's Facebook page for the updated photos.
Meanwhile, we had another podcast last night. Officially called "Season 1, Episode 3 (or S1E3), you can give it a listen in the embedded player below....
NOTE - if you can't view the embedded player, you can click through to the blogtalkradio.com's web site to play it, here.
Going forward, we are planning to do more shows in August. One thing we have thought about is having it done also as a live show, where we could take callers as well as doing it podcast style. The question is, would YOU be interested in calling in to chat? It might be fun to turn it into an interactive process instead of the five of us yammering on? But if you think you could possibly call in to chat, please let us know!
Meanwhile Cougfan reported on a story in the Salt Lake Tribune, that says that BYU's return trip to Pullman in 2013 may be getting pushed back? Check out the link here. It appears that we may have been "bumped" for Wisconsin on BYU's schedule next year. I guess we'll see what happens but interesting if BYU is bailing on the return trip to Pullman, at least for next year anyway.
Finally, Pac-12 media day is this week as you are all very aware by now. Cougfan had a good look/primer for this week, so hit that link here.
All for now. Enjoy your Monday and as always, GO COUGS!
Didn't anybody tell Travis or Anthony that Huddy doesn't like to be sad?
What scares me is finding out if Leach is a Zealot or a realist.
Awesome show lads! Bummer about Long and Lorenzi. But I kinda have a feeling that Leach will let these two things pass as he needs both these guys to have any credible defense next year.
On another topic, what do you all think of Ichiro to the Yankees.
I actually held a quiet celebration with a few of my friends. Now, how much do we know about these new pitchers?
@WallaCoug Super pumped about this trade. 2 pitching prospects is definitely an upgrade on a half dozen used baseballs, which is what Ichiro was worth.
Definitely appreciate him, but it was definitely time to go.
Laurenzi arrested for third degree theft and Travis Long for MIP. Long was a couple days shy of his 21st birthday so I'm firmly in the "who cares" camp, but I'm definitely concerned about the Laurenzi situation. I hope my main man "Ian" is ready to roll.
@Huddy By the way Huddy, good scoop.
@Huddy What is it with stealing stuff? How hard is it boys? What part of: "it's not yours, you don't just get to take it" do you not understand?
Very disappointed in Laurenzi. Very disappointed...
And no, I don't care if all he stole was a pack of bubble gum. This is called core character flaw.
Good show again guys.
I'm still building my site, but for those of you interested in hearing what the WallaCoug sounds like and at the same time would like to find out about a very honorable and talented Class 2B quarterback taking his skills to the next level-- check out my interview with Zach Bartlow at district9sportsshow.com. That's right Sutra--District 9...the district of champions (not that wussy District 1,2,3 that always sent .500 schools like Neah Bay to Spokane only to get whomped by 30 points a night and be dispached in 2 games!!!!!) : )
If you do go there, please coment and let me know what you think. Give suggestions too. Thanks!
@WallaCoug Love it, WC! Keep in mind that Ken's brother, LEN BONE, was one of the star studded personalities to come out of tri-district. So there! Also, Neah would have been better but they were too busy hunting Vampires...I know that now because I've seen the movies..... Nice work!!!
I would like to suggest Hooty McBoob as a call-in guest someday if he's up for it. Kaddy too! Bring back all the old-timers.
(And yes, I'm calling you guys old timers)
Comment #837b of the Day:
I'm sure that Moos isn't all that excited about the prospect of losing the revenue that a home tilt against BYU may have provided...BUT...
I THINK IT WOULD BE FANTASTIC IF BYU CANCELS THAT GAME!!!
In fact, if I'm Moos, I might even pay BYU to cancel that game...And the reason?
How about next year's 4-5 home-road split in conference, effectively made a 3-6 by hosting Oregon State in Seattle...
THEN factor in the following road games:
And most certainly.......USC
So, count me in as hoping that we can bring in Idaho State or SW Arkansas Community College instead of BYU....Right now, our schedule appears headed toward being in the Top 5 nationally for difficulty--not good for a program that's still rebuilding...
@Sutra Yet Bill Moos will still champion the Seattle Game against a conference opponent as a great thing for WSU.
@GeoffONeil Yep, but as we've said all along, that's kind of a necessary evil given (a) our lack of $$ donations; and (b) the massive capital projects intended to facilitate both program and financial development.
Although I am with you in HATING those conference games in Seattle, I am even more against scheduling 'UP' in non-conference games, especially when we're still rebuilding.
I mean, playing an upper division SEC team--the National Champion two years ago--is enough for any school. WE DON'T NEED to have any chance of being 1-2 in Non-Conference play anytime soon.
So, if we're going high dog with the "A" team, then we need to make sure that the other two are cupcakes...
My sense is that folks will pay $$ in the short term to watch Halliday throw 9 TD passes in one game...
Couldn't agree more on all these points.
I'm no marketing guru, but somewhere somehow, the AD will have to come up with a way to get the fans involved in supporting the department with $$. Until that happens, we will have "home" games in Seattle. Pisses me off too, because it's not part of my season ticket package. Moos is trying very hard to put a quality program on the field in hopes the fans will in fact support the program. This year should start that ball rolling. The biggest problem to overcome is the "last place" mentality a very large segment of the Cougar nation seems to harbor, and their unwillingness to show support for the team. Even when we had the 3 ten win seasons in the 90's, the $$'s didn't come in as they should have. This year the department started a phone campagin for annual giving. Membership starts @ $50.00/year. That's not a large amount, but even @ that, there were too few people signed up. I had a list of about 30 people who have donated in the past. Of those who would answer the phone, only 4 donated again. Pretty sad.
How cool/surreal must it be for our players to see Martin Stadium all dressed up like that???? I can't believe this is OUR school!!
@Sutra Hopefully this will motivate our fan base to start attending more games. I'd love to see attendance climb to a point where we can do another addition on the northside, as the stadium now looks more incomplete than ever.
@Sutra Not to get all sentimental, but I have to pinch myself everytime I see the construction photos with the project nearing completion. To think of what a pipe dream this was under Sterk, to Moos making it happen through a lot of hard work, but to make it seem like the snap of a finger, is just awesome!
@Sutra Also, the newest version of NCAA Football does not include any of the stadium renovations that have taken place in the last year or so and everytime the game pans to the south side of the stadium, I get pissed!
@LucasNurmi @Sutra Agreed, Martin is going to be amazingly cool and cozy when it is all done. And Lucas, I read EA Sports said that they are basically one year behind on most of the stadium updates. Basically they want to physically go and model the stadiums in person instead of blueprints. I am thinking we will see Martin updated for '14. On the good news side of things I did see that they are going to be releasing a few patches in the next month. Also they are going to post corrected uniforms you can download where they got it wrong. At least they aren't abandoning the product now that it is released!
If you don't read anything else today, read this....just an exceptional article on Penn State:
@SutraJust listened/read the article. Certainly not a red letter day even having to consider such action, but I believe the NCAA did the right thing in the right way. Let's hope they never have to do something like it ever again.
Rest assured, we will have a call in show in a few weeks. That said, we may become the first radio talk show EVER to not receive a single call over the course of a season. But starting in mid-August, we will have a show every Sunday night. So get your Cougar on.
These are a lot of fun to do, great idea Hawk! I didn't get a chance to listen to it last night after taping, but did from my phone this morning on my car. Was my audio super choppy or was it just me? Wish I had a land line to call in from. Sorry...
