Humpday Round-up

Greetings Cougs, and a happy hump day to you. No Huddy today but we'll get to some things rolling around here in the middle of the week.
Ready for the Mike Leach to Arkansas rumors?? Me neither, because they simply don't exist. Hey, something called "coachhuey.com" had rumors of Leach headed to Arkansas.....in 2007.
Nah, I wouldn't worry about it, at least not today. It will be interesting where the Hogs go for their next head coach though, in a very weird situation down in Hog-Ville. This isn't exactly the best time to be looking for a new head coach!
Moving on, Cougfan's latest sez Leach wasn't real thrilled with the O yesterday. It's a premium article but you can probably figure it out from the opening salvo:
Dropped passes and wrong routes were on full display early, to the point that head coach Mike Leach was visibly upset. So upset, in fact, that for the second straight practice he stopped drills and ordered up some old fashioned discipline.
Christian Caple has the details of the discipline, which was basically 30 up-downs before returning to the rest of practice. Tough love, sure, but a necessary element at times when the coach needs to be the so-called "bad guy". (By the way, everyone knows what up-downs are, right? Where you pretty much run in place, then the coach blows the whistle and you hit the ground, then get back up and run in place again, until the coach blows the whistle again and you do the whole thing again? Doing that 30 times no matter how good of shape you are in would pretty much SUCK. I figured if you are one of the 10 people reading this you already know what up-downs are, but just in case.....)
Meanwhile, there was some player news yesterday regarding O-lineman Denzell Dotson and our favorite missing linebacker, Sekope Kaufusi.
If you haven't heard by now, Denzell was arrested for DUI on Sunday morning (HAPPY EASTER??), but was back at practice on Tuesday. Caple asked coach Leach about Dotson and his status, and Leach said the following:
“You look at it and consider the facts and adjust to it as it comes. It depends on the circumstances of the situation, the whole deal.” So, will Dotson face any further punishment? “Anything that we do, have done, will do, that’s strictly within the team,” Leach said.
OK, so, I guess that means 1) It has already been dealt with, 2) there are some real circumstances here that they haven't announced that makes the staff believe the charges will be dismissed? Or 3) they are going to wait to deal with it. In the meantime, Denzell is practicing with the team based on his appearance yesterday.
Connecting the dots you could assume that he has a shot of sticking with the team? The whole team rules thing, Leach's rules and zero tolerance, does drinking technically fall in that net of getting the boot? Isn't it fighting and/or violence against women, stealing and drugs? We'll see what happens, but I guess we're looking at a gray area with Denzell Dotson.
On Kaufusi, it was announced that the charges had been dropped based on the legality of the search of Kaufusi's residence. Per Howie Stalwick, the case is considered "without prejudice", meaning it can be reopened if new evidence is uncovered. In this case, that scenario seems pretty unlikely!
Anyway, will Kaufusi return, now that charges have been dropped? We could go around and around about it, argue for days, speculate from every angle.....but it won't change anything. All that we can cling to are the facts here, and they are 1) Kaufusi was dismissed from the team for violating said rules, and 2) Leach has said that IF there is a possibility for Kaufusi to return, it's a private matter between the coaching staff and the player and they won't really make that public.
One more thing (and how could I forget this???) - the final beam for the current Martin Stadium renovation phase has been installed! Check out the pics:

The beam arrives

The beam is signed:
