Odds and ends.
I sound like one of those radio spots for Sleep Country that you hear where they're trying to sell you all of their old, crappy mattresses nobody else wants. Oh what was their old pitchmen's name, Sonny Kobe Cook?
Anyways, there is a ton of news developing on Planet Coug and we would like to share it with you. For my Weekly Predictions and more, please read on.
First things first. The 2010 football schedule has been finalized and there is a bit of surprising news. There will not, I repeat, will not be a home game played this fall at Qwest Field. According to Jim Sterk, the way the non-conference and conference scheduling went down did not allow for WSU to make their 9th consecutive pilgrimage to the west side. Many speculated that either Montana State or Oregon would be the game played there, but nothing was finalized with First & Goal; the production company of all events at Qwest Field. However, the Cougar Gridiron Classic has been slated to be return on September 10th, 2011 for a matchup with Bobby Hauck's UNLV Runnin' Rebels.
Too bad it didn't work out. I was thoroughly looking forward to the same shenanigans which have become this annual event. In 2008 my buddy Brando, the one who plays softball in the Arizona Penal League that I mentioned a few weeks ago, and I enjoyed ourselves a little too much. Our pledge brother Grimmace was getting married that night at the beautiful Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland. So after the game Brando and I head back to our hotel in Bellevue and ask the front desk for a 6:00 pm wake-up call, so we can make it to the wedding by 7:00.
What could 90 minutes of shut eye do but re-charge our batteries for the long night ahead...
Funny you ask.
We awoke to a wake-up call totally juiced to get dressed up. The only problem, it was now 7:45 pm and they insisted the two of us slept through more than a dozen of their attempted calls! Checking our cellphones we have another dozen or so missed calls and texts from our buddies Doof and Kevbo wondering where we were.
Doof knew what was up. He drove us home from the Coug's game, and was aware of the shape we were in.
Walking into their reception late, is what if must feel like for the girls who do the walk of shame into their house as everybody else is eating breakfast.

Moving on.
Over at Cougfan, you can find an excellent interview with Ryan Leaf. Everybody is aware of Ryan's well publicized issues while he was an assistant at West Texas A & M. This article discusses everything from his NFL failures, to his Vicodin addiction, to what would have happened if the Cougs had two more seconds in the 1998 Rose Bowl, and even has some additional links to some of his most fond memories. It is nice to see Leaf put these issues in the rearview mirror and has learned from his failures. He won me over with: "Cougar fans are so nice to me - I can't think of one time where a Cougar was anything other than positive with me."
Best of luck to you #16.
Finally, I want to get to my Pac 10 projections for this weekend's tilts. Last week I went a solid 7-2, only losing on the UCLA games. Seriously, I bet Las Vegas would have paid an incredible amount if you took the Bruins and the Money Line (straight up, no spread) against both of the Washington schools.
Thursday Night
Stanford at Arizona: Last weekend both of these team played extremely well. The Cardinal beating up on the lowly schools from Southern Canada Oregon, and Arizona crushing ASU. I am going to take the home team, coming off the upset, road win against their rival school. Arizona 73 - Stanford 70.
California at Arizona State: Can the previous hot shooting Sun Devils rediscover their magic ways after going cold against Arizona last Saturday? I personally don't think they can, and the Bears light up the zone with their guards. This one should be very exciting. California 71 - ASU 65.
USC at Oregon State: I think the Trojans will run the Beavers out of Gill Coliseum.

USC 68 - OSU 47.
UCLA at Oregon: A matchup of current polar opposites. UCLA has won 3 of their last 5, while the Ducks have dropped 4 straight. I want to go out on a limb here and pick the Ducks in an upset, but they are to home court advantage what the Huskies are to going on the road. UCLA 85 - Oregon 78.
Saturday
Stanford at Arizona State: After losing two straight, the Sun Devils bounce back and scorch the Cardinal, who have been lit up from outside at times (see, at WSU). The only difference is the ASU Zone Defense won't allow as many points in the paint as the Cougs did. ASU 65 - Stanford 59.
Cal at Arizona: Boy this game sure could make the conference race interesting. I see a Cal let down after their solid performance two nights earlier against the 2nd Place Sun Devils. Jerome and Co. cannot get it done in Tucson. Arizona 88 - Cal 83.
UCLA at Oregon State: Oregon State has surprised us a few times this year. But they won't shock anybody with good play on Saturday. Reeves Nelson will be Pac 10 Player of the Week after tearing the Willamette Valley apart. UCLA 74 - OSU 58.
USC at Oregon: I have an odd feeling about this one. Something tells me that TaJuan Porter gets hot, and USC won't have an answer for Dunigan on down low. Oregon 66 - USC 61.
Wazzu at UW: After history repeat itself last week (Wazzu split on the road, UW got shelacked) the two teams reunite at Hec Edmondson Pavilion for a 12:30 PM tilt. UW swept last year's contests, while the Cougars won the previous 7 in a row. Both of these teams are similar in that they feature excellent guard and wing play, with no legitimate number 5 down low; Baynes and Brockman where art thou? Romar and Bone know each other like the back of their hands. This game should be UW's for the taking with their amazing home court advantage, but I have a feeling this one comes down to the execution of the two point guards, and without a doubt Reggie Moore is the better of the two up to this point. Wazzu 84 - UW 83.

Have a good weekend, and Go Cougs!
