Season Lost

Hello Followers.

Well, tonight, our Cougies choked away an 18 point second half lead and lost yet again at Maples 60-58.

While all hope could be restored with a miraculous win on Saturday, you can put money in the bank that we will get swept this weekend.

Now, instead of being 6-6, we are 5-7--soon to be 5-8.

The season is all-but on life support now.

Only listened to parts on the radio, but in spite of our big lead, one has to question what the hell Bone was doing tonight.

Harthun got HUGE minutes in spite of doing nothing all year.

Motum, who played great in our last game, makes a token apperance at the 8:00 minute mark in the second half when the Trees were already in the midst of a 12-2 run (yeah, THAT'S a way of getting a freshman in the flow).

And Bone swithed out of the zone in the last ten minutes allowing Fields to get a TON of space (Stanford radio:  "I saw a lot of Ken Bone games while he was at Portland State and I've never seen him make such poor decisions regarding his defensive changes.")

Lots, lots, lots to feel bad about tonight.

Now, with a close loss and a CAL blowout win against Washington, all looks lost.

Bad, bad, BAD night.

Hope you all enjoy the three day weekend.  Remember, we'll have a football night recap for you on Saturday.

Umm, yeah. That was a real head scratcher from coach Bone. It was total amateur hour out there tonight. We mysteriously went away from the zone D that was so effective and as we predictably went into our signature 2nd half defensive collapse, he was super slow to react. Klay finally had a hot hand and Bone did a great job of cooling it off on the bench. Then late in the game we reverted to our old way of not running an offense at all and just every man trying to create his own shots... and missing. I think the Casto dunk to tie the game was our first assist since Motum was in. Major league choke job out there tonight.

Part of it can be chalked up to youth. But the other part (the larger one) had to do with coaching.

Really hard to figure out the thinking there.

Given all that was at stake WHY tinker.

WHY?

Yeah, this is all on Bone. Right now he just isn't getting the job done. This team is much better then it's record now, and that is on the coach.

From the sounds of it, the jumper Green hit with 4.6 seconds left, there was nobody in the vicinity defending. We couldn't buy a bucket down the stretch.
I am confused

To not see Motum earn a chance at some real minutes in this game after last week is strange. I don't think Bone has done his job in creating any sort of consistent rotation to help some of our young talent create a groove. It feels like he didn't test them enough in pre Pac games to really know what each one brings, and now he is just making crazy reactive decisions at random. While players are still going to develop as the year goes on, Pac-10 play is too late for experiements. Good coaches and teams create a strong 7 to 8 man rotation by the start of league play, barring any strange circumstance, and the players are able to prepare themselves accordingly.
And his defenisive strategies have confused me since the first ASU game. He is not making changes until too late, and is some cases, (as playing Zone against Cal int he first matchup) just using horrible strategy.

This team is not improvedas the year has gone on, and I have to put that on the coaching.
sorry!
