Still a Week Away

Greetings, Cougar Nation. Hope you've had a really great week.

Well, as promised, I had my conversation with the brass from the WSU Athletic Department today regarding our announcement to help spearhead a grassroots funding campaign for Martin Stadium.

Rest assured, Cougar Faithful, that the Administration at the Athletic Foundation are jazzed about YOUR enthusiasm and support for WSU athletics. And when I say jazzed, I mean JAZZED (like Diamond Neil style circa "the Jazz Singer" for you youngins out there)....

They are also surprisingly willing to listen to my bird brain ideas about creating a process that allows the "Web Fans" who frequent the WSU Sports Cyber community to witness the fruits of their giving and labor by creating a few wrinkles to their existing funding apparatus.

So, I will be talking again with officials from the Athletic Department this time next week to move toward finalizing some details about the structure and layout of the link we (all WSU sports websites) can use to kick this campaign into high gear.

In the meantime, if there's input about how you would like to see this process set up, or if there is specific information regarding information you would like to know about individual or collective giving via this campaign please let us know.

And from all of us at the WSU Football Blog, thanks in advance for making 2009-2010 the most memorable year in the history of WSU Athletics. Just think, in 2010-2011 we might be both solvent AND good.

I would like to see some type of scoreboard, (maybe next to the 2008 Apple Cup Scoreboard) with total new donars, new $$s, total dollars etc. I don't think you need to break it out by internet site since it's a group effort and I suspect many Cougs are Ho's like myself and have no loyalty to any particular site.

One thing I was thinking about is I would like to see a way where we all can email or whatever our confirmation number to confirm donations to add to the total. it would bee nice to reach back to the announcment about the Apple Cup and count from then to get a real feel for the success of the push. If people could send in the confirmation number the school can verify and add the total it would be great. I would also like to see a total number on donors someplace that is constently updated.

I think this will be a shocking realization to the AD when they see the effect of the Web community on WSU Athletics. I think this will help them better aim their advertising and just think of all the new programs they can create aimed at us. Maybe this will also help them realize that they have demand for things like streaming games, both radio and video feeds, via the internet.

Thank you for stepping up and doing something about this. We have all been talking for years about this but its nice to see someone take the reigns and get this moving.

Thanks, folks. All great suggestions--some of which we actually talked about yesterday.

Keep the ideas coming and I'll be sure to bring many of them up next week.

All I would like to see is how much money has been given (collectively), and how much money is needed. Alright, thanks guys!

Is there a rough estimate how much money was donated since after the qwest field thing fell through?

A couple of good news items. WSU baseball wins and stays in 2nd place in the Pac 10.

WSU also picked up a committment from Jake Rodgers, a 6-7 245 pound tightend/lineman out of Shadle Park in Spokane.

Nice to get some good news today after simply brutal news from the budget cuts.

Couple more sites that you guys might want to include in the fundraising effort that I recently discovered.

CougHoops.com and thecoug.com

You may already know about them.

Good call on the good news. It is as if it has been a string of bad for a little while. It is nice to get something positive. And Kaddy, thanks for the website names. I have seen both of those, and we will for sure send them whatever the final outcome is on this thing. Any other wsu fansite we can get the better!

I think the amount of donations received post puppy pullout is about 12k.

Some guy on Cougfan had a wise idea. He had Apple Cup dvd's and will send people a copy if they prove they make a donation of at least 20 dollars. It is a cool idea but then you run into problems if you get 100 people who donate the money and you have to mass produce dvds on your own as well as pay shipping. Money loser.

Well I just made a donation, because Call-a-Coug was making some dials. Would love to get a dvd if somebody can put me in touch with the Apple Cup DVD guy...
