So how about those SEAHAWKS huh?  Nasty defense with a serious chip on it's shoulder from beginning to end, that was one impressive performance.  You can see why people are so jacked about the approach under Jim Mora and Gus Bradley, the up-and-comer defensive coordinator who has the boys in blue playing that Tampa Bay defense to a T.  But what was interesting was to see the Hawks overcome a slow, sloppy start with three early turnovers, yet still punish a team that they should have in the Lambs.  Quite the contrast to the performance on the field the day before?

Yeah, it's Monday, and it still stings from Saturday's whoopin'.  They are still sifting through the wreckage, but it will take a little time to digest it all.  And really, some good comments from many of you in the last day or so.  I know the emotion is always at it's "rawest" the closer you are to the moment, but as time goes on, the bigger picture will emerge.  Whatever that big picture actually is.  I know there's tons of second-guessing, and right now?  It's hard not to question things.  I guess if we didn't care, we wouldn't question, right?  We'd just shrug our shoulders, say "ah well, that's the way it goes" and move on to something else.  But we're here, and we care.  So there.

Your usual blog-fodder today, including the Spokesman's recap from Wulff's media pow-wow where he's happy they didn't lose by 40 or 50.  And the bad news piles on with more injury stuff that will keep some key starters on the sidelines next week, including LeAndre Daniels at safety and Andy Mattingly, who might be OK by Saturday after suffering a mild concussion.  But it looks like Gino Simone is out after a VICIOUS hit he absorbed in the second half, and Zach Williams is doubtful with an ankle sprain.  Two weeks in, and this is already starting to look a little rag-tag on the injury front?....Howie Stalwick recaps it as well.  He also puts some of the miserable defensive perfomance in perspective by pointing out the inexperience on that side of the ball:

"Saturday’s defensive starters included five players who redshirted last year, a true freshman, an NCAA Division II transfer and a fifth-year senior who has played in four games the past four seasons."

And we thought Hawaii's defense was inexperienced with just one returning starter from last year.  With SMU up next, running the same run-n-shoot offense that shredded the Cougar D, only with possibly better athletes than Hawaii?  Hate to say it, but Saturday's defensive result might be more the norm than the exception this year.  And if you follow such things, the Ponies are a 4.5 favorite.

Finally, the blog poll is back for 2009!  While we care about the Cougs, we also check other stuff out, you know how it is.  We love the college game, and we know football exists outside of Pullman.  We are participating this year with CBS Sports.com's weekly blog poll, where the different football blogs around the country weigh in on their top 25.  So here's our ballot for this week, after the read more.....and feel free to provide feedback where we blew it.

USC made a nice jump to #2 in our poll after the "drive" vs. Ohio State, and CAL settles in at #6 after a couple of very impressive weeks to start 2K9.  And the Beavs sneak in at #25, while Michigan debuts at #24 after their wild win over Charlie Weis and his insistence to pass late in the game when they TOTALLY could have milked some game clock!  No wonder some Irish nuts want Weis gone.

All for now.  GO COUGS!
