Interesting info coming out of today's practice recap, per Howie at the Kitsap Sun.  First, the QB's.  It's still a dead heat?  Really?

It has not been a simple task for coaches to decide on a starting quarterback. Still, offensive coordinator Todd Sturdy had a simple answer when asked if the battle between Kevin Lopina and Marshall Lobbestael is dead even: “Yep.”

Lopina started eight games last season, but Lobbestael made three straight starts before going down with a season-ending knee injury in the seventh game. He has shown no ill effects from a major knee operation.

“He’s doing really good,” Drake said. “His work this summer paid off. He worked hard. That underwater treadmill really helped.”

So even after all that talk of how great Kevin Lopina is looking, they are still calling this thing "dead even"?  Hmm.  Maybe Lobbestael isn't out of this thing yet?  Maybe Lopina hasn't been all that's been reported and/or witnessed by the vast majority who have ventured out to Pullman this August?  We'll see.  But it could either be 1) Lopina has it salted away, but they want them all to keep competing as if the job is open, or, 2) Lobbestael really ISN'T that far behind.

Final tidbit has this:  Sturdy said the Cougars still plan to redshirt true freshman quarterback Jeff Tuel and senior running back-kick returner Chantz Staden, but nothing is set in stone.
