Tardy Out For Season

Hope you all enjoyed Dwight Tardy's 200+ yard breakout vs. UCLA, because that's the last we'll see of him this year. Tardy tore his ACL on his last carry of the game vs. the 'Ruins. I guess it's Kevin McCall, Marcus Richmond and whoever else the rest of the way (Chris Ivory will NOT travel to Cal this week).

I have to admit I really thought McCall ran well last week. He's big, strong and physical and didn't hesitate at all, in fact I don't think I've ever seen him look better. But, still. Damn. We get one thing to really feel good about this year, and then it's back to reality this week. Tardy wasn't going to be the "x" factor this week, but clearly a commitment to balance is our only hope on offense the rest of the way. We'll see how the backups do, but this could be the biggest injury of the season.

Some fans are noting that it appeared that Tardy hurt his knee while celebrating with the fans in the end zone. Ouch!

It's rally too bad and I had the thought "why is he still in the game?" when he was running to the endzone. Just one of those unfortunate things. All is not lost. McCall has shown he can perform at this level. He seems to read blocks well and takes what is there. We will see what he does with the bulk of the carries. I'm also hopefully Richmond can show something over the rest of the season. It's good he will get some experience. Hopefully he can hold onto the ball and not miss blocking assignments. I expect to see them use Collins out the backfield. He could really do some damage if they can get him into some space out of the backfield.

I saw him limping off after that TD run, and I thought, "Anyone would be a little sore after all those yards."

Kevin McCall = the new Frank Madu. Always just a shoelace tackle away from breaking the big one. Here's hoping, though.
